about

Josh Lombard is a director, editor, and producer working across theater and film. He is the Co-Artistic Director of Headwall Theatre Company, where he develops and directs contemporary work rooted in psychological intimacy and visual storytelling.
As a queer artist, he is drawn to work that expands how audiences see difference—across sexuality, race, class, and desire—and moves them beyond reflexive judgment. He views the director as a captain, not a dictator, guiding a team toward a shared goal through a “place of yes.”
Josh’s practice is driven by a curiosity for textual truth and a focus on creating indelible impressions—moments so vivid they remain long after the curtain falls. He approaches staging through a filmic lens, using light, composition, and spatial relationships to shape cinematic transitions and focused points of attention.
Alongside his directing practice, Josh’s background as an editor and photographer informs how he works in the room. These disciplines sharpen his sensitivity to rhythm, framing, and point of view, shaping how he structures performance and curates an audience’s emotional experience.
